A Creative Afternoon at MOCA Toronto
There's something special about making art in a space surrounded by art.
Earlier this month, Clay With Me had the pleasure of partnering with MOCA Toronto for a hands-on mosaic workshop that brought together creativity, curiosity, and community for an afternoon of making.
Participants were invited to transform broken pieces of ceramic and tile into something beautifully whole, discovering that even the smallest fragments can become part of something meaningful. Guided by our instructors, guests learned the fundamentals of mosaic design, explored safe tile-cutting techniques, and assembled their own coaster-sized mosaic to take home.
What made this workshop especially memorable was its connection to MOCA's current exhibitions. Before stepping into the studio, participants were encouraged to wander the galleries, drawing inspiration from the textures, patterns, and materials found throughout the museum. From expansive tiled installations to thoughtful ceramic works, the exhibitions became an extension of the creative process, showing how contemporary art can spark ideas in unexpected ways.
Throughout the afternoon, the room was filled with conversation, concentration, and plenty of moments of discovery. No two mosaics looked alike. Each reflected the personality and imagination of the person creating it, reminding us that art doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful.
At Clay With Me, we believe creativity becomes even more meaningful when it's shared. Collaborating with organizations like MOCA Toronto allows us to bring hands-on artistic experiences into inspiring cultural spaces while introducing new audiences to the joy of working with clay and mosaic.
A heartfelt thank you to the incredible team at MOCA Toronto for welcoming us and helping make this collaboration such a success. And thank you to everyone who joined us, explored the galleries, got their hands dirty, and created something uniquely their own.
We look forward to creating together again soon.
