Kids Pottery Instructor

Clay With Me is looking for a Kids Pottery Instructor to join our team and lead our after-school pottery programs for children ages 6–12, with opportunities to also teach our summer camps.
This role is ideal for someone who loves working with kids, is creative, energetic, patient, and enjoys hands-on activities. You do not need to be an experienced ceramic artist—we can teach you the pottery techniques and provide training and support. What matters most to us is your ability to connect with children and create a fun, safe, encouraging environment where they feel comfortable being creative.
About the Role
Our after-school program gives kids a screen-free creative activity where they can learn, experiment, and make their own pottery. As an instructor, you'll guide students through a variety of projects while helping them develop confidence, creativity, patience, and problem-solving skills.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading engaging 1.5-hour pottery classes for children ages 6–12
- Creating a fun, welcoming, and supportive environment for kids
- Guiding children through pottery, handbuilding, painting, and creative projects
- Demonstrating techniques and helping students as they work independently
- Adapting your teaching approach to different ages, personalities, and skill levels
- Managing a group of children while maintaining a positive and respectful classroom environment
- Encouraging creativity rather than focusing on perfection
- Helping with studio setup and cleanup before and after classes
- Following studio safety procedures and helping children use tools and materials safely
- Communicating with parents when needed
- Potentially teaching children's summer camps and other kids' workshops
What We're Looking For
Experience working with children is essential. This could include experience as a:
- Teacher or teaching assistant
- Daycare or childcare worker
- Camp counsellor
- Coach or sports instructor
- Tutor
- Youth program leader
- Art instructor
- Babysitter or nanny
- Or another role where you've worked directly with children
You don't need to have a background in ceramics. We will train you in our pottery techniques, projects, studio procedures, and teaching approach.

Schedule
Our after-school programs run on weekdays, with classes typically taking place Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons/evenings.
Additional hours may be available through summer camps, school programs, workshops, and other children's programming. Opportunties to host Kids Birthday Parties and events.

Clay With Me is one of Toronto's largest community pottery studios, offering pottery wheel classes, handbuilding, paint-your-own pottery, memberships, private events, camps, and community programming across two studio locations.
We're looking for an organized, proactive, and hands-on Studio Coordinator to oversee the daily operations of both studios and help ensure an exceptional experience for our students, instructors, and guests.
This is an on-site leadership role with office space available at both studio locations.
About the Role
The Studio Coordinator is responsible for ensuring our studios operate efficiently every day. You'll oversee studio operations, manage supplies and inventory, support instructors, coordinate private and corporate events, and work closely with management to keep both locations running smoothly.
This role is ideal for someone who loves Clay and has experience in a pottery studio, is organized, enjoys solving problems, and isn't afraid to roll up their sleeves.
Key Responsibilities
Studio Operations
- Oversee the daily operations at our studios
- Ensure studios are clean, organized, safe, and fully stocked
- Open and close studios as needed
- Conduct regular studio walkthroughs and quality checks
- Ensure studio standards are consistently maintained
Inventory & Supplies
- Monitor inventory of clay, glazes, tools, packaging, cleaning supplies, and retail products
- Order materials and supplies before inventory runs low
- Track supply usage and help manage studio budgets
Equipment & Maintenance
- Coordinate routine maintenance of pottery wheels, kilns, slab rollers, extruders, and studio equipment
- Schedule equipment servicing and repairs
- Order intake forms from the printers
Team Coordination
- Support, train, and oversee ceramics instructors and studio assistants
- Ensure instructors are prepared for classes
- Monitor attendance and staffing
- Help coordinate instructor schedules
- Assist with onboarding new team members
Private Events & Programming
- Coordinate the setup and execution of private parties and corporate events
- Ensure materials are prepared before every event
- Support event hosts and instructors during programming, make sure instructors are showing up for their shifts
- Help prepare studios for workshops, collaborations, and special events
Administrative Support
- Assist management with studio scheduling and operations
- Instructor attendance
- Prepare weekly operations reports
- Track studio needs and communicate updates to leadership
- Help improve operational systems and workflows
Studio Experience
- Serve as the primary point of contact for on-site questions (instructors and clients)
- Ensure students and members receive excellent service
- Help resolve day-to-day operational issues
- Create a welcoming and organized studio environment
What We're Looking For
- Must have pottery studio or event coordinating experience
- 2+ years of experience in operations, studio management, hospitality, retail management, education, or a related field
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Strong leadership and communication abilities
- Comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to solve problems independently
- Experience coordinating teams is an asset
- Experience with workshops, events. Ceramics or art studios is preferred but not required, we're happy to train the right person
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and working in an active studio environment

Intermediate Level Ceramics Instructor
Our team is more than just a group of talented ceramicists and ceramics teachers; we're a community of creators. Teaching is not just a job; it's an opportunity for artists to enrich their own practice while sharing their knowledge to beginners just kicking off their creative journey.
We are seeking an intermediate-level skilled Ceramics Instructor to fill a part-time, on-site position and round out our existing team. The Ceramics Instructor will be responsible for upholding our studio values and fostering a friendly, kind, and encouraging environment while teaching adults and/or children of various experience levels how to work with clay.
All our ceramics instructors must be proficient in hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing. Responsibilities include planning and preparing lesson plans, supervising and guiding students during hands-on activities, providing feedback to the Studio General Manager, and maintaining studio equipment and materials.
Responsibilities:
• Teach adult and/or youth students in wheel throwing, hand-building, glazing, and firing techniques.
• Develop and execute engaging lesson plans tailored to different skill levels.
• Provide hands-on guidance and technical support during classes.
• Maintain studio equipment and ensure a safe and welcoming learning environment.
• Communicate feedback and updates to the Studio General Manager.
Qualifications:
• 3+ years of teaching experience at the intermediate level in wheel throwing.
• Advanced skills in trimming and glazing.
• Experience with ceramics including hand-building, wheel throwing, glazing, and firing.
• Strong verbal communication skills to assist both beginners and professional ceramicists.
• Ability to demonstrate proper ceramics techniques and explain the principles behind them.
• Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a team as well as independently.
• Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience working with children and instructing adults is a plus.
• Experience teaching ceramics in a creative or educational environment is a plus.

Join Our Energy Exchange Program
Our Energy Exchange Program is designed for dedicated pottery students who want to deepen their practice while becoming an important part of the Clay With Me community.
Energy Exchange participants bring creativity, commitment, and care to our studios while gaining valuable studio time, hands-on experience, and the opportunity to grow alongside fellow makers.
In exchange for 4 hours of personal studio time each week, participants commit to a 4-hour weekly studio shift (scheduled together week by week). During your shift, you’ll help support the daily operations of our studio through tasks such as:
- Reclaiming and wedging clay
- Studio cleaning and organization
- Preparing materials and maintaining workspaces
- Greeting students and supporting the studio experience
- Assisting instructors when needed
- Helping with general studio care and upkeep
This program requires a minimum 6-month commitment. Participants will receive clear responsibilities, training, and ongoing support to help them succeed in the role.
The Energy Exchange Program is more than a studio arrangement, it’s a way to connect with the Clay With Me community, continue developing your skills, and contribute your energy to a creative and welcoming environment.
Many of our Energy Exchange participants have gone on to become instructors at Clay With Me, building their confidence, teaching skills, and ceramics experience while continuing their own pottery journey.
