Instructor - Chloe

Chloe is a Toronto-based ceramicist who has been working with clay since 2018. After taking a short multi-week wheel course that summer, Chloe knew she wanted to continue learning and practicing the craft, and began regularly practicing in drop-in studios whenever she could. Her education and background as a professional environmentalist further fuelled her passion for working with earthen materials.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chloe continued to develop her craft at home, crafting pieces and bringing them to Clay With Me for firing - beginning crafting under the name 'Clayboy'. Slowly, her own home studio was created tool by tool, and finally, purchasing her own kiln. Creating ceramics during the pandemic kept Chloe grounded during all the newfound downtime, and provided the needed creative outlet.
Primarily self-taught, Chloe specializes in handbuilding, while continuing to hone her skills on the wheel, always exploring new ways to work with clay and try new glazing techniques. Chloe prefers to pinch and slab and refines her work with beloved shredder tools. Often torn between bright saturated glazes and letting the clay shine on its own, Chloe enjoys using wax resist and taping techniques when glazing.
