How to Paint Your Pottery

1. Set Up Your Creative Space

Find a comfortable spot at home where you can relax and get creative. Cover your table to protect the surface, lay out your ceramic piece, and organize your paints and brushes.

Keep a little water and paper towel nearby for cleaning your brushes between colours.

2. Plan Your Design

Before you start painting, take a moment to think about your design. You might want to create something simple and minimal, experiment with bold colours, paint flowers or patterns, or add a personal message.

You can sketch your ideas on paper first, or simply let your creativity guide you as you go.

3. Choose Your Colours

Pick a palette that feels like you! Try complementary colours, playful combinations, soft neutrals, or a mix of all your favourites.

You can paint your piece in one solid colour, create a repeating pattern, or build a design using different shapes and details. There are no rules, and every piece can be different.

4. Start Painting

Using the brushes provided, begin applying paint to your ceramic piece. Work in small sections and take your time, allowing painted areas to dry as needed before adding more details.

Start with larger shapes or background colours, then move on to smaller patterns and finishing touches.

Tip: If you're new to pottery painting, start simple. Dots, stripes, hearts, flowers, and abstract shapes are easy ways to create a design you'll love.

5. Add Your Personal Touch

This is where your piece really becomes yours! Add initials, a meaningful date, a favourite phrase, playful illustrations, or a design inspired by something you love.

Your piece doesn't need to look like anyone else's. Whether it's a gift for someone special or something you'll use every day, the personal details make it unique.

6. Let Your Piece Dry

Once you're happy with your design, set your pottery aside in a safe, protected spot and allow the paint to dry completely.

Important: The paint in your kit is for decorating your pottery at home. Your piece will need to be returned to Clay With Me for the appropriate finishing process before it can be used. Please follow the care and return instructions provided with your kit.

7. Bring It Back to Clay With Me

Once your painted piece is completely dry, bring it back to the studio so our team can prepare it for glazing and firing.

This final step helps transform your painted design into a finished ceramic piece. We'll let you know when it's ready for pickup!
