Clay & Beer: Make a beer stein using the handbuilding technique, complete with shaping, adding decorative textures, carving techniques, stencils, stamps, and vibrant underglaze colors. Participants will enjoy the creative process while sipping on Collective Arts drinks) All drinks managed by Collective Arts. 

Join us at the Collective Arts Taproom at 777 Dundas St W for this 2.5 hour class where we’ll provide all the clay, underglazes (like paints for the clay pieces) and tools for you to create your own unique stein. Drinks and refreshments from Collective Arts will be available and once the class is done you’ll be able to pick up your own hand-made stein from our Richmond Street Studio at XX Richmond Street West, after a 3 week firing period. Your finished Stein will be food and dishwasher safe and help keep your brews cold for years!

What to expect

  • Expect to get a bit dirty with clay slip, but all materials used will wipe off with water, or come out in the laundry
  • The last 20 minutes of the class will be dedicated to clean-up
  • This class is one, 2.5 hour class, including instruction and clean up
  • This class includes one finished and fired stein, to be picked up 3 weeks after the class
  • Any included or purchased pottery will be fired by our team to make it food-safe, and ready for pickup 3 weeks after the class.

What to bring

  • Please bring an apron and hand towel for you to use during the class.
  • Short trimmed nails are ideal for ceramic creativity, but our team is happy to instruct some work-arounds for acrylics.

Please note:

 

  • Purchases are nonrefundable, and rescheduling requires 72 hours' notice.
  • Due to class schedules we are not able to offer make-up classes for multi-week classes. 
  • The studio is not liable for lost or broken pieces, recognizing explosions and cracks as inherent in the ceramic process.
  • Please be sure to arrive on time, late arrivals may be denied entry.
