Reclaiming Clay
At Clay with Me we recycle and use all of the clay that comes through our studio.
Any clay pieces that don't make it into the kiln are dried, processed, recycled and wedged into clay again. This ensures that we're not throwing away any clay, so that it can find it's final home as a wonderful piece of pottery.
One of the easiest ways to integrate more environmental practices is by reclaiming clay instead of throwing clay scraps into the garbage.
Working with local suppliers
At Clay with Me we're crazy about our community, and it's important to us to work with local suppliers and manufacturers for our clay and glaze needs.
By working with local suppliers, we ensure that clay and materials aren't shipped farther than they need to, economizing on emissions from transportation.
Managing our Energy consumption
Energy is important to us at Clay with Me, and not just because of our Energy Exchange Program. We know that firing our electric kilns to make our ceramics is a high-consumption practice, so we make sure that every kiln fired is as full as possible, to make the practice the most energy efficient.
This can mean that it takes a bit longer for your pieces to be ready, but we know that it's worth the wait.
Packing ceramics sustainably
We know how much packaging there is in the world, and so our studio does our best to package finished ceramic pieces in only recycleable material, never using packing peanuts or plastic wrap on your ceramics.
We also pride ourselves on re-using any plastic packaging that our clay comes in, using it for packing clay for use in the studio, or wrapping greenware for work-in-progress ceramics.
