About this class

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of pottery with our comprehensive wheel-throwing and handbuilding class.

You'll create functional tableware on the potter's wheel and through handbuilding techniques. From kneading and preparing the clay to trimming, decorating, and glazing, Gabriela will guide you through the entire process of crafting your pieces.

You will start with basic forms like cylinders and semispheres, gradually increasing the size and complexity of your work at your own pace. Gabriela will also teach you the three foundational handbuilding techniques: pinching, slab building, and coiling. With these skills, you’ll be able to create a wide variety of pieces—limited only by your imagination.

Students can create:

2 Dinner Plates (approx. 9 inches)
2 Coffee Mugs (approx. 3.5 inches high)
2 Soup Bowls (approx. 5 inches in diameter)
2 Spoons
2 Napkin Holders
1 Salad Bowl (approx. 9x5 inches)
1 Cheese Board (approx. 10x4 inches)
1 Butter Dish (approx. 4x6 inches)

The class consists of 6 sessions, during which you’ll receive 5 kilos of clay—enough to create several functional and decorative items from the list below.

This class is 6 consecutive weeks of 3 hour classes at the listed start date, time, and location where you'll learn from our expert instructor, tailored for your own skill level.

Prerequisite: Students must be able to independently center on the wheel and create a tall cylinder.

Pieces will be ready for pick up 3 weeks after the final class.

Instructor - Gabriela

Owner and Founder Gabriela Mariana Angulo is a ceramic artist and educator. With a degree in Ceramics and Visual Arts from Artes del Fuego College in her native Argentina, she subsequently became a professor, teaching pottery for 10 years. She sold her creations throughout Argentina, earning a stellar reputation as a well-known and highly respected ceramist with a thriving business.

Moving to Toronto in 2010, she faced initial struggles due to her lack of English proficiency. Despite this challenge, she was determined to learn and enrolled in language classes while her daughter attended preschool programs. She persisted until she could effectively communicate with others.

After a couple of years, when she felt confident in her language skills, she began sharing the art of pottery and artistic expression with her daughter's classmates. Her love and passion for the craft inspired her to establish Clay With Me, initially operating from her kitchen.

Every day, Gaby reminds us that we pursue this path out of love and conviction. She infuses pottery with fun and unexpected elements, fostering optimism for the possibilities that lie ahead for us all.
